The Naughty Knotty Font
Knotted 3 (August, 1974)
Above, you see the manner in which I annoyed my first grade teacher during
the first week of first grade, when I went to Hardin School in Cherokee
County, Alabama, not far from where I lived at the time. I can remember the
teacher saying, "Oh, please do not tie knots in your threes." I'd giggle
and keep doing it, though.
I was six years
old and after one week at Hardin School, I started going to school in
Cedartown, Georgia, where my father taught, and I went to Cedartown the
rest of my school days, until I completed the 11th grade in Spring, 1985.
I played around with this knot trick with other numbers, and came up with
this wonderful character set, much to the dismay of my teacher. I was
doing this because I had just learned how to tie a knot in a piece of string.
Interestingly enough, I never did this to my numbers after I left Hardin
School, so none of my Cedartown teachers ever saw these types of figures.
Back to school.
